Woman who stole bank robbers getaway car relives moment
TO Houston, Texas, where Blanca is caught up in armed bank robbery. She runs from the bank. She jumps into the nearest car she can find. The engine is running. She drives off. That car is the robbers’ getaway car. Says Blanca:
“I was just thinking, ‘Just get out now and just duck, ‘cause they are going to shoot you. And it was just going through my mind – ‘my children, my children.’ I went the other way like this and I just ran, and I kind of just ducked down and I pushed the first door and I threw a lady out of the way.”
“The first car I saw, I jumped in.”
A few miles up the road, she park. She runs into a shop, screaming:
“Then, they arrested me, and they said, ‘You’re the one that stole a stolen car.’ And I’m like, ‘Oh my God, it was their car.’”
Blanca wasn’t charged. And neither were the robbers, who escaped by hijacking another car.
Blanca attributes her manic escape to the love for her four kids, who can now look proudly at their mum and know that when crisis strikes, mum will push anyone out of the way, take any vehicle and save her skin. Before Blanca moves seamlessly into a political career, here she is re-enacting that drama…
