Manchester United
As Newton Heath, the club wore red-and-white, green-and-gold and then white, before changing to the famous red when the club became Manchester United in 1902. But that wasn’t the end of the matter. In 1934 they ‘did an Arsenal’ and switched shorts mid-season, adopting cherry-and-white hoops. After finishing 20th in Division Two, the club went straight back to red, which they have stuck with ever since, going on to become England’s most successful domestic club. In 1992-93, the season of their first Premier League triumph, they went back to the Newton Heath shirt for away fixtures – as worn here by Captain Fantastic Bryan Robson…
