The football teams that changed their kits and won and lost their identities
Leeds United
Leeds began in blue and white stripes, switched to blue and yellow in the thirties, and carried on until 1961, when manager Don Revie introduced an all-white kit, inspired, he said, by the legendary Real Madrid side that dominated Europe at the time. The effect was dramatic, as the team avoided relegation to division three, and became national champions by the end of the decade. In the early 1970s, they pioneered sock-tags and track-suits with names on, and the trick worked again as they won the FA Cup and the league, before losing a controversial European Cup final.
