Andre Villas-Boas will work at Spurs for free
THE Sun says that Andre Villas-Boas will “lose nearly £11million” the second he agrees to be the new Spurs manager. Only, he won’t. He won’t lose at all. Journalists are infamously crap at maths, but the Sun’s Paul Smith takes the biscuit.
Villas-Boas was sacked by Chelsea with 28 months to run on a three-year contract. The deal meant Villas-Boas would collect his £100,000-a-week salary until he got scored a new job.
Writes Smith:
But if he takes the White Hart Lane post, Chelsea supremo Roman Abramovich will turn off the cash tap and AVB will miss out on another 25 months — worth £10.8m.
So. According to Smith, Spurs won’t be paying Villas-Boas anything by way of wages or signing on fees. We know the Spurs owners are good with money – and out manoeuvred Harry Redknapp with some ease – but to get their man for free is incredible.
