Adel, and the gnawing predictability of a Bond theme

by | 18th, September 2012

NEED a Bond theme? Get someone with a big, booming voice, right? Not quite. Nancy Sinatra did the best one and she’s hardly operatic. Either way, these days, it’s all about divas who can belt one out. Simon Cowell has probably been shoving Leona Lewis in the faces of James Bond producers since she won X Factor.

However, unsurprisingly, Adele’s name is being floated around for Skyfall, the 23rd Bond film. That’s because she can pelt a song out AND just happens to have sold a gazillion records.

Now, there’s no official confirmation on all of this, but the latest from Sony regarding the increasingly noisy rumours is that there’s “nothing confirmed, no comment.” However, she’s been dropping clues all over the shop.

During an interview on Jonathan Ross’ chat show, she said: “Well this is actually a theme, what I’ve got to do for, um… Wow. That’s really giving something away isn’t it?” Tinie Tempah, also on Wossy’s show, said he’d spoken to Adele about her Bond recording, saying: “I was with her (Adele) yesterday, she was telling me about it and that’s amazing.” He then added: “I’ve always wanted to do a Bond theme. I’m a bit jealous actually. No, let’s leave it to her, it’s always a really big diva that does it right?”

However, rumours have been wrong before. So, if Adele isn’t doing it (which she obviously is), then who would you like to see singing over the Skyfall credits?

Our money would be on Mark E. Smith and Janice Battersby recreating Hylda Baker and Arthur Mullard’s version of You’re The One That I Want.
