Dudley Council fine man for cleaning up street litter
DAVID Baker, 39, passes his time keeping from Stourbridge tidy. He picks up rubbish left on the pavement. He used to put rubbish in big council-supplied plastic bags and then dump it in street littler bins. But Dudley Council stopped supplying those bags so Mr Baker took to using carrier bags.
He picks up papers, junk food wrappers and more.
By way of reward, Dudley Council have handed Baker a £75 fine for fly tipping.
Councillor Tracy Wood explains why:
“Our enforcement officers issued a fixed penalty fine to Mr Baker in Stourbridge, after they found his domestic waste and letters in the litter bin on a number of occasions…”
So. Mr Baker cleans up the rubbish. He puts the rubbish in bins. The council then sifts through the bins, finds some junk mail Baker’s included in the mess and issues him with a fine for using bins for rubbish.
On the council’s website, after listing various threats against litter louts, the page ends:
Avoiding fines
To avoid a fine make sure you dispose of your litter correctly “bin it”.
But that’s rubbish.
