Jermaine ‘Michael Jackson’s brother’ Jackson, wants to change his name to Jacksun
CELEBRITIES don’t have a good record with names. Prince changed his to a squiggle and Frank Zappa and Bob Geldof sent their offspring into certain bullying by given them daft monikers. Mixing both of these angles is Jermaine Jackson, who has not only given his children awful names (Jermajesty anyone?), but he’s changing his name for ‘artistic reasons’.
‘Artistic reasons’ is code for either ‘stupid’ if you were wondering.
Jermaine is petitioning to have his surname changed to ‘Jacksun’ and it seems obvious that he’s doing that in a bid to distance himself from the rest of his family.
“Phonetically, it changes nothing,” says his friend Steve Denni. “It is something he has chosen to do, and it’s fair to say that you cannot blame this one on the boogie, you’ve got to blame it on the sunshine.”
Jesus.
For anyone who has followed the career of the Jackson 5 brothers, Jermaine has always had the air of Self Proclaimed Most Important One Of The Group, when everyone knows Michael and Tito are the best two (one had an amazing talent, the other had a fine line in smart hats).
And so, invariably believing himself to be above his siblings, we see ourselves looking at a man who can’t bear that ‘O’ that lies in his name, relegating him to little more than a ‘Brother Of Michael Jackson’.
Some people don’t know how good they’ve got it. Oh, and Jermaine is currently on tour, talking about his book, ‘You Are Not Alone’, which is almost entirely about Michael Jackson.
