Blind man runs over girlfriend after 5 bottles of wine
GALLOWS humour is something that drags every one of us through the day because, without it, we’d spend our entire lives sobbing at work.
And so, let us laugh at a story about a man who is registered blind, running over his partner in a car, after drinking five bottles of wine… because the reality of it could very well be far too depressing to contemplate.
Blind Scott Law (not the best blues name ever, granted), got behind the wheel of a Peugeot 206 after caning a load of booze before running over his gal, Suzanne Scawthon. There was a two year old child in the rear passenger seat too! Mercifully, Ms Scawthon wasn’t killed and escaped with minor grazing.
Oddly, she then got in the car with the blind man and buggered off, but some vigilant citizen got the registration number and called the police.
They found a blind man, half-cut with his breath being more than twice the legal limit with 88 mgs of alcohol per 100 mls of breath. He got jailed for driving blind, dangerous driving, drink driving and driving without a licence and without insurance.
He was also disqualified from driving for six years. A blind man there, getting disqualified from driving. Amazing scenes.
Passing sentence, Judge Sean Morris told him: “You were driving up the road unable to see properly because you were registered blind and you were full of drink. You are a menace when it comes to cars. It is time you learned your lesson. You can sit in prison and think about your life and what you have done.”
Apparently, the blind man was also bare-chested and seen to urinate against the side of the car, unsteady on his feet, which makes the incident retina-burningly evocative.
What a tremendous world we live in.
