A SIX-year-old British boy was among the victims of America’s Newtown school massacre, it emerged today. Dylan Hockley and his family moved to the United States from Hampshire at the beginning of last year and his parents picked Newtown because of the quality of teaching at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Dylan was among 20 children shot at close range by Adam Lanza, 20. Jake, Dylan’s older brother, survived the attack but could hear the shooting from a nearby classroom. Theresa Moretti, their grandmother said: “How do you tell an eight-year-old his six-year-old brother is dead and not coming back?” Moretti added: “Dylan was a lovely boy. He had dimples and blue eyes and a mischievous grin,” she stated. “We are shattered and will never be the same.” Nicole Hockley, the boy’s mother, is an American citizen who worked in Norwich, London and Hampshire before moving back to the US when her husband, Ian, started work with IBM in New York. Moretti said: “They chose Newtown to live in specifically because the school was so good. My daughter told me: ‘It’s safe and lovely here, Mum’.” A church in Newtown was evacuated today after an undisclosed threat was made by telephone. A crowded mass was interrupted at St Rose of Lima Church, but police later said nothing dangerous was found. Halfway through the noon service, the priest stopped and said, “Please, everybody leave. There is a threat,” said Anna Wood of Oxford, Connecticut, one of the worshippers present. Gunman Lanza, his mother and eight of the child victims attended the Roman Catholic church with an adjacent school, which Lanza attended briefly.
