Jimmy Savile inquiry: Newsnight and BBC wonks carry on as usual
SO. Newsnight carries on. Editor Peter Rippon has left his post but should get another one at the BBC; Stephen Mitchell, the deputy head of BBC News will step aside in 2013 – full pension for him; Helen Boaden, director of BBC News, returns to her job as head of news; George Entwistle, who resigned as director-general last month, gets a massive pay off and full pension; Adrian Van Klaveren, head of Radio 5, carries the can for Lord McAlpine being wrongly labelled a paedophile – but keeps his job.
The inquiry into why Newsnight spiked Its report on BBC worker Jimmy Savile being a sexual predator says there was no cover up.
The report overseen by Nick Pollard says:
“The decision to drop the original investigation was flawed and the way it was taken was wrong but I believe it was done in good faith. It was not done to protect the Savile tribute programmes or for any improper reason.”
Such are the facts. Now, image what the BBC wold say were the story about politics or big business..?
Oh, and the Pollard report cost…£2million!
