One Pound Fish Man Muhammed Nazir wins free trip to Pakistan
SO. Goodbye Muhammad Nazir, the Pakistani who stood in Queen’s Market, East London, to belt out his One Pound Fish song. He’s been deported because his student visa had expired- much like the college of his study.
When the Home Office heard the song (it peaked at 29 in the hit parade and scored him an appearance on the X Factor) they investigated.
Shiraz Maher calls it “a damning indictment of the British deportation system that Nazir is removed while the likes of Abu Qatada continue to live here at our patronage”.
Why should one mistake should lead to two mistakes? Fame should give him immunity from the law? Isn’t that the Jimmy Savile defence?
The BBC says:
Shahid was visiting the UK for study and work, to try to make a better life for his wife and children back home…
Isn’t the headline: singer wins free trip home?
