Chris Huhne tells his wife he understands her as Vicky Pryce laughs her way to prison
CHRIS Huhne, the former Liberal Democrat Cabinet Minister, and ex-wife Vicky Pryce perverted the course of justice. Their lies earned theme each eight months prison.
Huhne, 58, will kick off his tour at HMP Wandsworth in South London. Pryce, 60, begins in HMP Holloway.
The judge said Huhne had “fallen from a great height”. But he still managed to sound lofty as he told reporters:
“I am just incredibly sorry. I want to say that to family, to friends, to constituents and to colleagues. Going to jail is a fairly small bit of the total penalty. What was really painful was losing the one job I really wanted to do. Climate change is something I care passionately about.”
He lied about speeding in his car. And, no, it wasn’t a Prius. It was his big petrol-driven BMW with personalised number plates. (His driving was environmentally inefficient.) Perhaps the vain former LibDem MP for Eastleigh will ask for a personalised number on his prison records?
He’s vain enough to.
Outside the court, he told us:
“I’ve had three careers and I will have to find a fourth. Lawmakers can be many things, but they cannot be lawbreakers.”
Having explained to us the hypocrisy of his actions in denying wrongdoing until the very last moment when his hand would be placed on the Bible, he vanished up his own arse.
But not before he told us that he understood his ex-wife, who ratted him out for their lie (she took his speeding points and then dobbed him in when he left her for another woman; an affair exposed in the much-missed News of the World):
“I didn’t want her to go to jail, I told the kids and everybody else that. Revenge eats you up. It does worse things to you than to the person you are attempting to attack.”
No. It does the same things. Eight months each. And as for attempting to attack her wayward husband, Pryce was rather successful. She might well spend the next eight months laughing.

PS – Had Huhne been banned from driving would have been able to meet his girlfriend so easily?
