Malvern Binman pooed on resident’s driveway
WHAT would you do if the binman pooed on your driveway? A dustman employed by Malvern Hills District Council did just that, taking a poo on a resident’s driveway. The home owner says the dirty toilet roll blowing down his driveway in Ryall, near Upton, Worcestershire.
Says that homeowner:
“It’s pretty vile.”
They then wrote to the council asking for £1500 in damages. The council is allowed by law to fine dog owners £1000 for not clearing up after their dogs.
The homeowners, whose driveway has been disinfected, adds:
“I’m not interested in that kind of apology. It was suggested to him at the disciplinary hearing that it would be better for him to apologise well, that’s not the sort of apology I’m interested in.It’s like telling a two-year-old ‘say you’re sorry’. They don’t mean it. It’s just to satisfy mummy and daddy.”
A two-year-old might well be wearing pull-ups.
Chris Bocock, chief executive at Malvern Hills District Council, responds:
“As soon as the incident was reported to us by the customer we accepted full responsibility and took immediate action by sending out an operative to make sure the area was cleaned and sanitised. I shall be meeting with him to offer my personal apologies in an attempt to resolve the situation. The issue of a lack of toilet facilities for our staff who are on the road all day is of course a sensitive one particularly in rural areas where there are far fewer amenities. We are reviewing our current practices to see if we can make any improvements.”
Why didn’t he toss his dirty toilet paper in the back of the bin van?
And if a lack of toilet facilities is a problem, maybe the council is to blame? In 2007, it moved to shut public toilets in Tenbury Wells, Upton Upon Severn and Malvern. Other public toilets have been sold off. A lack of public loos means council workers have told library users to use toilets within Tesco.
Still, at least in the library there is paper – and bins…
