Rich and handsome David Beckham says God chooses who is disabled, ugly and poor
DAVID Beckham has a new tattoo. Appearing at Peking University, Becks showed off his latest ink. Written in a Chinese script, it translates to:
“Life and death are determined by fate, rank and riches decreed by Heaven.”
Go that. Nice, eh. And not all that different from what Bill Roache said. The Coronation Street actor, nicknamed ‘Cock’ Roache on account of his love life, shocked the world when he said:
“…because everything that happens to us has been a result of what we have been in previous lives or whatever.”
On the 9th March, the Daily Mirror made that its lead story.
Roach apologised. But that wasn’t enough for some. The Daily Star led with:
Corrie Ken In Death Threat Hell
DETECTIVES are probing death threats made against Coronation Street star William Roache over his claim victims are “to blame” for sex abuse.
And:
Don’t Watch Corrie:
ANGRY Corrie fans are calling for a boycott of the show until star William Roache is axed. Roache, who plays Ken Barlow, has claimed sex abuse victims “brought it on themselves”.
Roache’s comments were about the life on Earth being decreed by a higher power. That’s pretty much what Beckham’s saying. The rich, good looking footballer is touched by God. The poor, ignored, destitute and lonely are that way by Heaven’s design and will. Nothing you can do about it. It’s God’s will. Was the Holocaust God’s will? Sex abuse? Cancer?
The Guardian looked at Roache and recalled another past member of the karma klub:
In 1999 a furore erupted around the England football manager Glenn Hoddle, when he said in an interview that disabled people were being punished for sins in previous lives. He was sacked soon afterwards.
It’s not giant leap from Beckham’s tribute to his own saintliness from Roache and Hoddle’s comments. But, then, neither Roache nor Hoddle were all that photogenic. And they can blame God for that…
