Yorkshire man smuggled 17 lives partridges into Manchester Airport
TARIQ Mehmood, 33, attempted to smuggle 17 live partridges into the UK via Manchester Airport. Mamood had packed the birds into his bags in Pakistan. When stopped at Manchester Airport, he said the bags were full of “clothes and stuff”.
When the bags were open, the birds did not sing. Thirteen were dead. The rest had to be put down.
Why had Mamood done it? He said it was “because he liked them”.
Anorak likes leopards and fat bumble bees. But we wouldn’t take them on holiday with us. And certainly not to Manchester, where they’d get bored easily.
Mehmood, of Liversedge, West Yorkshire, was given a 12-month community order, and must carry out 140 hours’ unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay £260 costs.
