Weather forecasters to be sued for wrong reports

PREDICTING the weather is like trying to catch rain with dentures. Endless figures are crunched and the end result is a vague idea of what could happen, coupled with a cheerful shrug.

Well, the owner of a cave centre in Wales is not having it and is threatening to sue weather forecasters over their inaccurate reports.

Ashford Price runs National Showcaves Centre for Wales, in the (gaspingly beautiful) Brecon Beacons National Park.

Price claims that the weather reports are ruining his business by putting visitors off visiting the attraction and making other plans instead. That, or no-one is really interested in going to see a cave, regardless of the weather.

Either way, he might sue.

He explains:

“My legal team is looking at whether compensation can be claimed for Welsh tourism operators when forecasts are completely wrong. Forecasters say early in the week, the weekend weather will be bad, only for it to turn out free of rain and wind. There are too many gloom and doom reports.”

A spokeswoman for the Met office refuted Price’s accusations by pointing out weather reports are right six days out of seven, before presumably sloping away muttering about how rubbish caves are.

More on the weather and the relevance of that photo (above) here.
