In photos: The EDL demos in Downing Street and Newcastle mean no peace for Lee Rigby

THE English Defence League has been making hay form the barbaric murder of Lee Rigby. We never knew the man, but to think a serving British soldier would have wanted his name evoked in shows of divisiveness and bigotry in London and Newcastle is ugly. It dishonours the work of the country’s Armed Forces. At the Downing Street demo, an EDL supporter carried a picture of a meat cleaver, presumably of the type that killed Mr Rigby. One woman on the EDL side of the row with Unite Against Fascism had written “RIP LEE RIGBY” on her shirt. Rest In Peace? That’s a sick irony.
