Cheerios advert brings out the racists
BIZARRELY, in 2013, there are people who still define other humans by the colour of their skin. All white people are ruthless and can’t dance, all black people are criminals, all yellow people are karate experts and all brown people want to blow up planes. Apart from the white people who are poor and live in Russia, the black people who are pillars of society, the yellow people who would like to point out they’re not actually yellow and the brown people who are generally lumped together because they don’t fit in the other categories.
And everyone forgot about the Native and South Americans.
Oddly, the people who are really ‘all the same’ are racists, because they spit vitriol at anything and anyone that doesn’t look like them and usually, can’t spell for shit.
With that, we look to a Cheerios commercial which features an interracial couple. Most people wouldn’t even notice that the family are interracial, but the racists did. And they don’t like it one bit.
The racists hated it so much that Cheerios had to close down the comments on their YouTube video, after comments about Nazis, troglodytes and racial genocide were made. “Everyone gets hate comments on YouTube,” said Andre Meadows, the creator of the Black Nerd Comedy channel. “You can make the most wonderful video in the world and you will get ‘Fake!’ and ‘Gay!'” But for minority creators, “when you get comments, it seems to be targeted toward race almost immediately. A lot of people get ‘dumb video, stupid video’ — but with mine it immediately goes to racial slurs.”
Some people saw the Cheerios ad and heaped a whole lotta love on it, saying how refreshing it was to see families like theirs on-screen… however, on the flip, some said that the depiction of a biracial family made them “want to vomit” or found the idea “disgusting”.
Other comments showed shock at the idea that a black father would stay with his family.
Cheerios, unfazed said: “Consumers have responded positively to our new Cheerios ad. At Cheerios, we know there are many kinds of families and we celebrate them all.” The reason the comments were disabled because they were; “in our view… not family-friendly, and that was really the trigger for us, you know, to pull them off.”
Here’s the video that upset so many thundering imbeciles.
