Talking balls: Olivier Giroud is Arsenal’s brilliant culprit and Ozil thrashes Spurs on twitter

TALKING Balls: Anorak’s been scouting round to see which football experts in the media are now telling us that they knew what was what all along? We spot the Mirror’s John Cross, billed as “our man in the know at the Emirates”, talking about Mesut Ozil arrival from Real Madrid and not signing a proven goal scorer:

The gamble is clearly relying on Olivier Giroud. He’s been in great form. Four goals in five games. He looks sensational. But Arsenal do not have a back-up centre forward. Their only viable option is Lukas Podolski and he’s out injured. Sanogo is unproven yet. Forget Nicklas Bendtner. Wenger has.

This is the John Cross who told us waaaaay back on August 22:

“THIS game showed why Arsenal have spent the whole summer trying to buy a striker. Giroud was the worst culprit… his finishing looks anything but top class”

And this is Wenger who told us waaaay back on August 10 that Bendtner had another chance:

“If he comes back well and gets fit, I will use him.”

Cross then talks about Spurs:

You can buy a lot of players. But it doesn’t buy togetherness. Looking at Twitter last Friday night, I thought some pundits embarrassed themselves when talking about Tottenham. It was as if they were playing transfer window Championship Manager.

How do you know they will settle in? Arsenal made them look like strangers at the Emirates. Too many new players. Arsenal thought their front three would be Chadli, Townsend and Soldado. Is that better than Lennon, Bale and Adebayor? I don’t think so.

Or as Cross put it on August 29:

But perhaps I shouldn’t mention the T word, let alone the S word in an Arsenal column. Fact is Tottenham – oops, sorry – have put Arsenal to shame, breaking their transfer record three times. They have gone for it. Their newly appointed Franco Baldini has gone out and done deals and highlighted the breakdown and failure in Arsenal’s transfer system.

Such are the facts with the Mirror’s inside man…
