Motorists nicked for brushing teeth and browsing the internet while driving in Hampshire
LORRY drivers get a hard time don’t they? People unfairly chide them, when they’re just trying to do their job, like those nice men on Convoy or Smokey and the Bandit.
And so, to a news story about a lorry driver was caught brushing his teeth while driving his long, flammable death machine. And also to a car driver was pulled over for shaving with a razor and a water bottle, during a police crackdown.
A five-day operation across Hampshire and the Thames Valley resulted in 198 motorists being prosecuted using footage filmed from a secret, unmarked lorry.
Sgt Paul Dimond said driving while distracted was a “significant factor” in many road collisions and the operation took place between 23-27 September and focused on the M27, M3, A34, M4 and M40.
If you were driving around there during that time, and maybe pleasuring yourself while eating a Pepperami, chances are, the police have been laughing at a video of you for the last week.
Naturally, most motorists were seen using mobile phones, yet bafflingly, two were using iPads and one was reading a map at the wheel.
All of them were fined, which is just punishment… but really, if you’re going to muck about at the wheel and potentially kill people, have the decency to do something weird like have a full shower or cook a roast dinner while you’re hurtling down a motorway.
All anyone wants is to die as part of an amusing news story.
