Drugs cop on Irish TV show exposed as an undercover drugs cop in real life
VIEWERS tuning into Irish TV’s crime drama Love/Hate got to watch Garda Kieran Madden in action. And so did the country’s villains. You see, Madden is played by Kieran O’Reilly – a copper who works undercover on the drugs squad for six years.
O’Reilly, 35, is attached to the Garda National Drug Unit in Dublin Castle.
The Mirror hears from a “source”:
“Senior management are hopping mad. They can’t believe he did it. He’s actually playing a similar role on the television as he does in his job with the gardai. There is no doubt his character is believable but the trouble is he won’t be too believable when he goes back to work with the drugs unit.”
Is O’Reilly now a star?
The producers say they were instantly impressed by his “natural ability and screen presence”. Last night, Hollywood actor Brian F O’Byrne, who plays Detective Inspector Mick Moynihan, praised Mr O’Reilly’s “rare natural talent” as an actor, describing him as an “extraordinary find”. The Tony-award winner said of his co-star: “As an actor, Kieran possesses an ease, a fluency and creativity on set that belies his novice status. In fact, it does the opposite, it marks him as someone exciting to watch in what I think will be a long career.”
He must be gutted.
