In 2007 The Daily Mail Predicted This England Team: Only Arsenal’s Walcott Made It
IN 2007, the Daily Mail’s predicted which tyros would make the England team of the future.
They get one right. Admittedly, Micah Richard looked a good bet to an England regular. But some of the other you’d be hard placed to recognise in their own lounges.
Nine of the Mail’s future XI between them have won precisely no caps. Only Arsenal’s Theo Walcott is regular Premier League player.
Normally we wouldn’t be so sniffy about rubbish predictions as viewed in glorious 20-20 hindsight (Christ knows we’ve cocked up enough of our own over the years!) but it’s the Mail, which loves to tell you when it gets it right – less so when it gets it wrong…
Dean Parrett: Stevenage
Jose Baxter: Sheffield United
Michael Johnson: retired
Theo Walcott: Still at Arsenal
Micah Richards: Manchester City squad man
James Henry: On loan at Millwall form Wolves
Gavin Hoyte: Dagenham and Redbridge.
Scott Sinclair: West Bromwich Albion, on loan from Manchester City
Robbie Threlfall: Morecambe
Sam Hutchinson: Dutch club Vitesse, on loan from Chelsea
Ben Amos: Waiting for his big chance at Manchester United
