Top 10 Overpaid Hollywood Actors
MAKING films is a risky business. Why should anyone listen to your stupid story? To convince people, you need someone famous to sell it because, for whatever reason, we trust certain actors more than others.
However, some A-listers just aren’t worth the money as they’re not recouping costs for the studios. With that, Forbes looked at who the worst 10 were and, here they are, with examples of their dubious work.
For example, Adam Sandler commands $15m paychecks, which is great for him but not so much for the studios. Based on the actors last three projects, the list looks at earnings at the box office per dollar of pay.
In Sandler’s case, Jack & Jill (dreadful flick where he plays both halves of a twin set) grossed $150 million but the movie cost $80 million to make and with the studio only taking home half the box office and them having to advertise the film, the return isn’t good at all.
With pay, budgets, expenses and more calculated in the return, let us look at the most overpaid actors in Hollywood.
Adam Sandler
The deeply irritating Adam Sandler returns $3.40 for every buck paid at the box office. Yet, studios still gamble on him. Time to put his career to sleep please.
Katherine Heigl
Heigl returns $3.50 for every $1, and no-one really watches her films after she was tipped for big things. Maybe she should look at dropping her fees or soon, people will stop hiring her.
Reese Witherspoon
Reese is not in any way a terrible actress, however, lately, she’s not been picking her parts well and has been returns $3.90 for every $1 paid. Mud, in short, was acclaimed, but wasn’t popular. Time for a chat with the agent.
Nicolas Cage
Nic Cage returns $6 for every $1 paid, which frankly, is a travesty because he can do things like…
Kevin James
Returning $6.10 for every $1 paid, James was pretty promising in the box office, but flicks like Here Comes The Boom have seen him prat-falling into overpaid territory.
Denzel Washington
Reliable ol’ Denzel returns $8.30 for every $1 paid. Reliable, sadly, doesn’t mean ‘deserves his huge upfront paychecks’.
Steve Carell
Carell may well be a likeable fellow, but he’s returning $10 for every $1 paid.
Jennifer Aniston
Returns $10.60 for every $1 paid, The Artist Formerly Known As Rachel Off Friends is doing okay in supporting roles, but films like Wanderlust are not setting the world alight.
Matt Damon
Returns $10.60 for every $1 paid and people still shout MATT DAAAAMOOOOOOON every time his name is mentioned. Poor Matt Damon.
Ryan Reynolds
Returning $10.70 for every $1 paid, Reynolds’ returns are getting worse by the year. ‘RIPD’ was one of the year’s biggest flops and he doesn’t strike you as a man bright enough to change the downward spiral of his career.
