LEE Rigby’s killers Michael Adebolajo, 29, and Michael Adebowale, 22, have been found guilty of murder.

What says the papers?

The Times: “Muslim converts guilty of murdering Fusilier Lee Rigby”

To the Times, religion lies at the heart of the crime.

Adebolajo and Adebowale both came from Nigerian Christian families but converted to Islam in their teens and were indoctrinated by extremist preachers including Anjem Choudary, former leader of the banned group al-Muhajiroun. Adebowale had attended a demonstration by Mr Choudary’s followers as recently as September 2012, just eight months before the Woolwich murder.

Adebolajo had tried to join the Somali terror group al-Shabaab in 2010 but was arrested in Kenya and deported back to Britain.

MI5 was in repeated contact with him from 2010 and is facing an inquiry into what it knew of him and what it did about the threat he posed. It is understood that despite his extremist activities, no anti-terrorism controls or restrictions were placed on him. Nor did police pursue a prosecution over his attempt to engage in terrorism overseas.

Romford Recorder: “Romford man Michael Adebolajo guilty of murdering soldier Lee Rigby in Woolwich”

Local man is murderer.

The Guardian: “Lee Rigby murder: Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale found guilty”

The jury took just over 90 minutes to reach its verdicts. Both men were found not guilty of the attempted murder of a police officer. Relatives of Rigby cried as the verdicts were given.

Rigby’s stepfather, Ian, wiped away tears and put his arm around the soldier’s mother, Lyn, who was sobbing. Mr Justice Sweeney, who ordered that the decisions be heard in silence, said he would pass sentence after a key appeal court ruling on the use of whole life terms in January. Adebolajo looked at the press and kissed his Qur’an as he was taken to the court cells.

He’ll have plenty to time to learn it off by heart.

CNN: “What led Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale to murder Rigby?”

Islam?

Adebolajo was the only one to give evidence in court. He denied the charges of murder and attempted murder of a police officer, on the grounds that he had acted from religious conviction. He converted to Islam in 2002 to 2003, while at a university, and adopted an Islamic name, Mujahid Abu Hamza. “I am a soldier of Allah,” he told the jury. “It is a war between Islam and those militaries that intervene in Muslim lands.”

Adebowale, who did not take the stand, converted to Islam more recently, in 2008 to 2009…

The police knew them:

Both were at a demonstration in 2006 outside the Old Bailey in London. Adebolajo was subsequently convicted on two counts of assaulting a police officer and spent 51 days in prison, but Adebowale was not arrested. Adebolajo still pleads innocence in that case, denying he punched a female officer in the face and a male officer in the groin.

Both men also participated in a protest in 2012. On the witness stand, Adebolajo said he attended demonstrations but was not specific, describing them as a way “to let off steam.”..

Asked in court what he thought of al Qaeda, Adebolajo said: “I love them and I consider them my brothers in Islam.”

Adebolajo also told jurors he was against British foreign policy but did not believe his Islamic views led him onto the path he had taken. “Even before I became Muslim, I did not agree with foreign policy,” he said, then describing an early memory of watching the Iraq war on television.”Operation shock and awe — I saw it unfold on BBC and CNN what not, and I was disgusted, you know. It was reported as if it was praiseworthy,” he said. “I knew that every one of those bombs was killing someone. I was disgusted.”

The squeamish killer:

Adebolajo, who is married with six children, said in his police interview, shown in court, that he didn’t like blood.

Channel 4: “British Islamists guilty of murdering Lee Rigby”

Again. Islam is given to be central to the crime.

Sean O’Neill (Times):

Mr Choudary was not in touch with Adebolajo or Adebowale at the time of the killing nor did he incite them to kill a soldier in South London, but the killer’s claim to have fallen out with the al-Muhajiroun leaders is disingenuous. Since 2005 Omar Bakri has been calling Britain a “land of war” and calling for jihad against Britons.

The former al-Muhajiroun leaders were not, however, the only influences on Adebolajo. Police searches recovered jihad books, articles and propaganda – including the lectures of the American cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, copies of al-Qaeda’s Inspire magazine and video material including at least one clip of a beheading.

Members of Adebolajo’s family, although brought up as strict Christians, have also embraced a politicised Islamic view of the world. His brother Jeremiah attended much of the trial and has been active on Twitter promoting the defence case. On December 9, he tweeted: “One clear solution to insecurity & attacks that have become common in UK & west. Remove every last troop from Lands of Muslims. Only option.”

UTV:  The family of Fusilier Lee Rigby have spoken out after two men were found guilty of his brutal murder in front of passers-by on a London street, saying religion was just “an excuse” for the killing.

Lee’s stepfather Ian has told ITV News: “It was two individuals – it wasn’t anything to do with religion. Their views are not the Islam views. It’s just their private views. You can’t hold religion responsible for their views.”

Farooq Murad, secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain:

“The murder of Drummer Lee Rigby was truly a barbaric act. Muslim communities then, as now, were united in their condemnation of this crime. This was a dishonourable act and no cause justifies cold-blooded murder.”

Indy: “Lee Rigby murder: Spotlight cast on security services”

They knew:

The Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC) has started an investigation into events surrounding the murder and will scrutinise the actions of the intelligence and security agencies, as well as counter-terror police.

Ahead of the trial MI5 director general Andrew Parker gave a speech in which he appeared to address the concerns.

In the speech, which garnered much attention for other comments directed at recent intelligence leaks, he said: “Knowing of an individual does not equate to knowing everything about them. Being on our radar does not necessarily mean being under our microscope. The reality of intelligence work in practice is that we only focus the most intense intrusive attention on a small number of cases at any one time.

“The challenge therefore concerns making choices between multiple and competing demands to give us the best chance of being in the right place at the right time to prevent terrorism. There are, of course, processes for making these decisions, but I can’t emphasise too strongly that it is not and never can be a precise science, and it should not be treated as if it were.

“It centres on the art of judgment by intelligence professionals, who rarely have more than fragments of a picture to work with.”

In short: they missed them.

Nick Lowles (the Guardian):  “Woolwich trial: The culture of hate that drove Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale to murder”

Hate. Yes.

Adebolajo was the mastermind of the Woolwich murder. He was born into a Christian household in east London but converted to Islam while studying at the University of Greenwich. He was radicalised by al-Muhajiroun, a hardline Islamist extremist group led by Omar Bakri Mohammad and Anjem Choudary, a group we, Hope Not Hate, recently exposed in our report Gateway to Terror. While Adebolajo went on to follow even more extreme preachers, and idolised the Yemeni-American extremist Anwar al-Awlaki and al-Qaida, it was with al-Muhajiroun that Adebolajo first became involved in Islamist extremism.

Al-Muhajiroun wants to create an Islamic state under strict sharia (Islamic) law. It would abolish democracy and all laws would be governed by a strict interpretation of the Qu’ran. Women would become subservient to men, homosexuality would be punishable by death and there would be no place for other religions.

Adebolajo is the latest in a long list of al-Muhajiroun supporters who have gone on to be involved in terrorism. Hope Not Hate has found at least 70 Britons who have committed terrorist acts or been convicted of terrorist-related offences that have been linked to al-Muhajiroun. Hundreds more have gone to fight for al-Qaida-linked groups abroad.

It’s hate. But they say it’s love.

ITV:

In 2010, Adebolajo visited Kenya and is believed to have been preparing to train and fight with the al-Qaeda-linked militants in Somalia.

According to intelligence files seen by ITV News, he travelled to the country’s coast and met a group under the surveillance of anti-terrorism police. It is claimed they contacted a radical cleric for help to get to Somalia. The cleric told ITV News Africa Correspondent Rohit Kachroo: “Michael was a very nice young man – a man of strong character and if you look at him you believed in his cause. They were to join their fellow Mujahideens [Muslims who proclaim themselves warriors for their faith] in Somalia and to assist, put a stop to the oppression many of the Muslims in Somalia are going through.”

The group was later arrested in Lamu as they allegedly waited for a boat to Somalia.

One officer, recalling Adebolajo’s anger at the time, said: “The British man said he’s just a tourist, he’s got the right to be on this island and no one can arrest him. But we had to arrest him. That was the order. He was very angry.”

But, blessedly, unarmed.

In footage filmed in a Kenyan court, Adebolajo claimed that he and other suspects were innocent and had been subjected to mistreatment.

Adebolajo was later deported. His lawyer at the time, Wycliffe Makasembo, said: “The British Commissioner gave Michael a clean bill of health, meaning that he had no connection with any criminal organisation – al-Qaeda or al-Shabaab.”

A letter seen by ITV News outlined claims from Michael Adebolajo’s family that British security services wanted to recruit Michael Adebolajo as an agent. Written in April 2012, it also alleges that he tortured when he was arrested and detained by anti-terror police in Kenya in 2010.

A friend that went to Islamist protests with him said those approaches became too much. Abu Baraa said: “I think he felt that MI5 were destroying his life, that his life as he knew it was over, that he had no control over his own future and I think he wanted to take that control into his own hands rather than leaving it up to M15.”

He did that.

Belfast Telegraph:

Witness Amanda Donnelly Martin was passed a warped handwritten note by one of Fusilier Lee Rigby’s murderers.

Ms Donnelly Martin was at the soldier’s side, attempting to comfort him as he lay in the road when Michael Adebolajo handed her the note.

It appears to be an attempt at explaining or justifying the barbaric murder – urging the removal of “so-called politicians” and making bizarre references to “international armed robbery” and “bewitching tongues”.

In full it read:

“‘To my beloved children, know that to fight Allah’s enemies is an obligation. The proofs of which are so numerous that but a handful of any of them cuts out the bewitching tongues of the Munafiqeen (hypocrites). Do not spend your days in endless dispute with the cowardly and foolish, if it means it will delay you meeting Allah’s enemies on the battle field. Sometimes the cowardly and foolish could be those dearest to you so be prepared to turn away from them.

“When you set out on this path do not look left or right.Seek Shaheed Ala oh my sons, so that you might be raised together and if it is Allah’s decree that you’re not to be in the hearts of green birds then be ready for to enter the university of Joosuf Sijn (sic) be patient there and be firm there and Inshallah you will meet your lord with him pleased with you.

“Verily Allah is with those who are patient. If I live beyond this day and you find me talking other than this then know that perhaps Allah has left me to stray. If you find yourself curious as to why carnage is reaching your own towns then know it’s simply retaliation for your oppression in our towns.

“Many of your people are aristocrats that directly benefit from invasion of our lands without material loss. Whereas the average Joe Bloggs working class man loses his sons when they’re killed by our brothers, when the heat of battle reaches your local street it’s unlikely that any of your so-called politicians will be at risk or caught in crossfire so I suggest you remove them.

“Remove them and replace them with who will secure your safety by immediate withdrawal from the affairs of Muslims. Muslims will trade with you on fair terms but understand that the days of your international armed robbery is (sic) drawing to a close. To humble yourselves willingly is better for you. May Allah guide your nation to the truth.”

Yahoo: “There will be more attacks, warns brother of Lee Rigby killer”

Warns?

The brother of one of Lee Rigby’s murderers has warned that there will be more attacks.

Speaking to Al Jazeera’s Investigations Unit, Jeremiah Adebolajo, told reporters the attack on the soldier was “inevitable” and the justification for his death was “obvious”.

It is?

Jeremiah, 26, who like his now convicted brother Michael is a Muslim convert, predicted another Woolwich-style attack due to foreign policy.

In a shockingly frank interview, Jeremiah, who was banned from attending the Old Bailey for some of his brother’s trial for security reasons, said: “I suggest that it won’t be the last, simply because of the tactics of the British secret service and foreign policy. For every violent action is a violent reaction.”

Let’s get Muslim coverts!

He went on: “Is it justified for a Muslim to attack a member of an army that is occupying Muslim lands?”

Muslim lands? What utter balls.

“This is something for the scholars and I think it’s obvious to most people,” he added. “The events to me were inevitable. There was eventually going to be another attack which mentioned foreign policy as its justification.”

The scholars? They really are self-aggrandiisng twats.
