Pussy Riot Will Not Be Appearing At The Sochi Olympics
PUSSY Riot are free. Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina have been granted amnesty, two months short of their scheduled release after spending nearly two years in prison for their protest at Moscow’s main cathedral.
They used their first press conference to state their sim to “get rid” of Russian President Vladimir Putin. They said their release was just “window dressing” for a corrupt regime.
There’s was a confrontation between repression and freedom. Di freedom win? No. It’s unlikely Pussy Riot will be performing at the Sochi Olympics.
The Daily Telegraph notes Nadezhda stating:
“Our attitude to Vladimir Putin has not changed. We’d like to do what we said in our last action – we’d like him to go away…”
What they said previously was put to music in the tune Virgin Mary, Get Rid of Putin, as performed in a one-off unplugged show at Moscow’s Christ the Saviour Cathedral:
Vladimir Putin is a very closed, opaque chekist,” said Ms Tolokonnikova, using the Russian slang for a secret policeman.
“He is very much afraid. He builds walls around him that block out reality.
“Many of the things he said about Pussy Riot were so far from the truth, but it was clear he really believed them. I think he believes that Western countries are a threat, that it’s a big bad world out there where houses walk on chicken legs and there is a global masonic conspiracy. I don’t want to live in this terrifying fairytale.”
Pussy Rio want Mikhail Khodorkovsky to give Putin a kicking. Interestingly, he was released from prison last week under amnesty. But he’s not all that keen on a career in politics.
