Red Hot Chilli Peppers To Be Most Hateful Super Bowl Halftime Ever?

THE Super Bowl halftime show is a mixed bag. Highlights have included Prince, The Rolling Stones, Chubby Checker (and 88 grand pianos), Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney and Beyonce.

With that, there have been lowlights too. Madonna’s turn at the show was met with stifled yawns, while The Black Eyed Peas performed their songs while everyone in the stadium ran off to the bar.

However, this year, we’ve got the Red Hot Chili Peppers, when there were clearly millions of better options. We would have gone for a Kanye/Daft Punk collab ourselves and, in the process, guaranteed ourselves some hilarious and camp controversy from Lord Yeezus. Alas, organisers have gone for the American Shed Seven.

RHCP are really pulling out the stops to be the most hateful Super Bowl band too. They’ll be appearing with the irksome Bruno Mars AND they’ve just announced they’ll be performing sacrilege by covering Led Zeppelin too.

This is what happens when you book a band that doesn’t have enough big hits of their own to do a spot as large as the Super Bowl halftime.

Speaking to Artisan News, the band’s drummer Chad Smith said that they would be playing: “We’re going to be playing Led Zeppelin’s live version of ‘Dazed And Confused’.”

Dreadful.

It doesn’t end there. U2 will also be throwing their weight around in a bid to be equally hateful. They’ve said that they’ll premiere a new song called ‘Invisible’ which will appear in an advert announcing a new partnership with Bono’s charity (RED) and Bank Of America.

Still, American Football fans can look forward to the game itself, which promises to be a great game with Denver’s attacking flair coming up against Seattle’s dogged tactical nous (imagine Brazil versus Italy in the 1970 World Cup final).
