Liverpool Balls: Manchester City To Buy Luis Suarez, Who Hates Brendan Rodgers
ARE MANCHESTER CITY preparing a “huge investment” to buy Luis Suarez from Liverpool?
Txiki Begiristain, City’s director of football, says he knows the contents of Suarez’s Liverpool contract. He “believes” the contract Suarez signed in December 2013 contains a release clause making a transfer viable if the player wants to move.
Suarez wanted to leave Anfield last summer. Arsenal bid £40 million and £1 in the hope that would trigger his services. The bid caused Liverpool owner John W Henry to ask what Arsenal “were smoking”. It turns out that the Gunners were right, as Henry recently confirmed that Suarez “had a buyout clause of £40m”, which the club’s owners chose to ignore.
The Sunday Times notes:
Fenway’s intransigence over an initial bid from Arsenal provoked a dispute between Suarez and Brendan Rodgers in which the manager accused the prolific striker of “total disrespect of the club — a club that has given him everything” and instructed him to train alone. Friends say Suarez regards his outstanding play this season as “a personal revenge” on Rodgers.
Some revenge to make Rodgers look like a top manager. Brendan must be gutted…
