Liverpool Balls: Hands Up Who Wants Luis Suarez To Miss The World Cup
THE Daily Suarez: A look at the Liverpool star in the news:
The Liverpool Echo picks up the news that Suarez is injured:
Liverpool FC star Luis Suarez looks set to be a major doubt for the World Cup after the Uruguayan hitman suffered a knee injury whilst training with his national team according to reports in his homeland. Uruguayan journalists tweeted the news early this morning and it looks the 27-year-old is set for surgery on his meniscus, which will make him a major doubt for the tournament in Brazil.
The Mail calls this “a direct boost to England’s chances of progressing out of Group D”.
It is.
Bloomberg Sports studied all players and every game in the English, French, German, Italian and Spanish first divisions and found that Suarez was the top performer.
Uruguay play England on June 19. Can Suarez recover in time?
One man who’d be excused for not being overly bothered if Suarez makes it is Ghana captain Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan. He missed the penalty miss against Uruguay at the quarter finals of the last World Cup. That he need to even take one was a trvesty, given that Ghana looked certain to score before loveable Luis Suarez stopped the ball with his hand. That earned him a red card. And when Gyan missed, Luis celebrated wildly.
Says Gyan:
”Honestly, it has been haunting me since then. I think about it in my quiet moments and I just cannot forget it. I always ask if there will be another opportunity like this for me again. It really hurts.”
Suarez’s teammates and fans were hardly upset:
