Get Rik Mayall & The Young Ones to Number One!
IT is remarkable that Rik Mayall, who sadly passed away yesterday, was so loved, considering the small matter of his solely playing really horrible people. Somehow, he retained a certain warmth while being slimy, obnoxious and pervy.
Such is the love, that fans have kicked off some campaigns to honour him.
There’s two campaigns – one to get The Young Ones to Number One – and another, to get Mayall’s Noble England to the toppermost of the poppermost.
Now, you might not remember Mayall’s song dedicated to England, as it failed to reach the top 40 when it was released. It featured Rik’s delivering lines from Henry V, with a football twist.
Have a listen here.
The track is already creeping up the charts.
However, a more silly, anarchic and fun campaign is one that wants The Youngs Ones version of ‘Living Doll’ to top the charts.
It did go to Number One, back in 1986, which no-one really saw coming. It was an unlikely chart-topper then, and it would be an equally amusing and baffling hit now.
