Wali Watch: The Truth About Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi And His ‘Expensive’ Wristwatch
THE Telegraph has a comment on the latest Islamist loon:
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi ridiculed for flashy wristwatch – The Islamic State leader prompts confusion among his followers after appearing in his first public address wearing a wristwatch that resembles an expensive Omega or Rolex
Oliver Duggan adds that Abu Bakr has been “ridiculed” for his wristwatch:
…the self-anointed ‘Caliph Ibrahim’ also brought a touch of branding into the bloody conflict, with many who have seen the 20-minute sermon commenting on his bulky and expensive wristwatch.
Go on…
His choice of accessory, which is believed to be either a Rolex, Sekonda or £3,500 Omega seamaster, has been highlighted as jarring with the content of his controversial speech.
That speech included the line – and try not to snigger in the back row:
“I am the wali (leader) who presides over you..”
We hear you, Great Wali (but we don’t hear you non-kosher watch ticking like Mickey Mouse’s black heart):
And as for wallyness, the Telegraph adds:
The watch bore an obvious resemblance to models designed by a number of famous watchmakers, including the £3,490 Omega seamaster Aqua Terra and a much cheaper Sekonda time piece.
It’s so obvious that the paper’s watch expert can’t spot the difference between an expensive watch and one costing around £40.
If you can’t tell the difference, then Anorak’s got plenty of genuine Rollex watches to sell…
