Transfer Balls: Sami Khedira Signed For Arsenal On Deadline Day
TRANSFER Balls: A regular look at rumour and utter balls being passed off as breaking football news in the media. Today we look at news on Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira.
Sami Khedira is still hopeful of sealing a move to Arsenal this summer despite suggestions that the Gunners have given up trying to sign him.
The Metro does not say how it knows Khedira is hopeful, only that he is. The paper’s ability to read minds is famed.
But over in the Express, the German’s hopes of playing for the Gunners turn to disappointment:
Arsene Wenger is ready to abandon his pursuit of Sami Khedira, Morgan Schneiderlin and Lars Bender. The Arsenal boss is considering deploying Jack Wilshere in a midfield holding role next season.
The Indy agrees:
Arsenal transfer news: Arsene Wenger set to cancel moves for Sami Khedira and Morgan Schneiderlin in favour of Jack Wilshere
One BBC journalist also agrees that Khedira is a no go. But David Ornstein says the Gunners will buy a new midfielder:
Arsenal no longer pursuing Khedira but still in market for DMF, will sign GK & probably DF depending on Jenkinson/Vermaelen situations #AFC

And then up pops the man at the Daily Star to shout:
As ever when a headline is posed as a question, the answer is ‘No’. And the, er, Star’s Colin Harvey agrees that his colleague’s scoop is balls:
The Gunners attempted to sign Sami Khedira from Real Madrid but with that deal seemingly dead in the water, Arsene Wenger has turned his attentions to moulding Wilshere as a long-term fit.
But wait a moment… Yahoo! has news:
Arsenal may have been put off by Sami Khedira’s wage demands but that hasn’t stopped Lukas Podolski from trying persuade his fellow Germany international to join him at the Emirates Stadium.
“I didn’t have to [try to convince Khedira to join Arsenal],” Podolski told Sport Bild.
“Sami knows how much fun he could have with me, Mesut [Ozil] and Per [Mertesacker] at Arsenal. We had a great time together at the World Cup and I would like it very much if he comes to London.”
The website then adds that Khedira is also on his way to Chelsea…maybe. Maybe no.
And finally, let’s not forget the news that the German is already a Gunner:
