Free Speech Watch: Watching The James Foley Murder Is A Crime Unless You’re In Uniform
DID you watch the video of James Foley being murdered? Have you searched the internet for stills from it?
If you do see it, take care. Looking can make you a criminal.
Scotland Yard says that “viewing, downloading or disseminating extremist material within the UK may constitute an offence under terrorism legislation”.
Yeah. Watching a video MAY constitute an offence.
The key part of the Terrorism Act 2006 states that anyone who “distributes or circulates a terrorist publication” is open to investigation.
Why anyone would want to watch an innocent man being murdered is beyond me. But to make it a criminal offence to watch a video of a crime being committed is bizarre. Surely the police and others in uniform will look at the video. So. Why can’t you?
The New York Post thinks it a good to show the horror.
PS – Twitter has been suspending accounts that have tweeted stills from the murder.
