Missing: The Muslim Woman Who Ordered Vermont’s ‘Yield For Bacon’ Sign Removed
TO Vermont, where the Sneakers Bistro in Winooski, Vt. has been forced to remove the sign ordering ‘YIELD FOR BACON’ from a herbaceous border on Main Street. The NY Daily News says a Muslim woman complained that it was an affront to non-pork eaters.
The owner doesn’t sound too bothered, making a comment on Facebook:
“We are here to serve people breakfast, not politics. We removed the sign that was located on public property as a gesture of respect for our diverse community.”
Caleb Wiley, a resident of Winooski, is more put out:
“I respect her religion and her right to believe what she wants but I’m pretty sure the First Amendment extends to bacon and the selling of it.”
Other would argue (and your writer is one) that a ign proclaiming ‘Yield To Bacon’ would be more appropriate, given its deliciousness.
But the story is odd becasuse the Muslim woman who complained it not identified and is not heard from directly. And in the headline the individual becomes the many:
Not ‘residents’. Resident. But because we live in divisive times, the one anti-baconite berk is billed as a”member of the town’s Muslim community”. That’s the tough thing about being of an ethnic minoroty, whatever you do reflects your group to the others…
