Transfer Balls: Arsenal Weigh Up Cavani Against Benzema
TRANSFER Balls: The Express leads with the news that Arsenal are lining up a £50m move for Paris St-Germain star and Manchester United target Edinson Cavani.
Anthony Chapman has news:
…according to reports in France, Wenger is determined to sign Cavani before the end of the window, with a £50million bid believed to be in the works.
What reports in France, he doesn’t say. If only there were a way of linking stories to their sources on a world wide web.
We found talk that Cavani is off to Arsenal if PSG can secure Benzema from Real Madrid.
And that would be the Benzema who just signed a new contract to keep him at Real Madrid until 2019:
And in France there is talk of this chap:
So. There are sources. But these sources offer no word on any bid from either Arsenal or PSG.
The Express ploughs on:
Cavani, who had been tipped earlier in the transfer window to join Louis Van Gaal at Manchester United, is rumoured to be unhappy at the Ligue 1 side with Zlatan Ibrahimovic taking centre-stage, and although the Uruguay international is prepared to give his PSG career one more season, an offer from Arsenal could be too good to turn down.
Manchester United never made an offer for Cavani.
The paper finds no needs to quote another French source, namely L’Equipe, who quoted Cavani:
“I’m certain that I’ll stay – why wouldn’t I? I feel very good in Paris, I have a contract to respect at PSG. I’d prefer to be here. I feel good here.”
Such are the facts.
