Liverpool Balls: Brendan Rodgers Says Suarez And Sturridge Are 4 Times Better Than Balotelli And Sterling
LIVERPOOL Balls: Brendan Rodgers loves to talk. He’s always so heartflet and earnest. Last season, when on course of the Premier League title and three goals up at Crystal Palace, Liverpool self-combusted.
Rodgers said it was down to Liverpool playing “Roy of The Rovers football”. Melchester Rovers’ centre backs Lofty Peak and Duncan McKay would never have squanderd a three goal lead. And the lads from Mel Park were all about circumstance-defying comebacks.
And as for flair, it was as a manager that Roy told his team (via The Blizzard):
Here’s his tutorial as caretaker boss to the England squad ahead of a World Cup warm-up match against Holland in 1978: “I don’t think there’s any point in trying to match the continentals for skills. I think we’ve got to believe in ourselves and rely on the things we’re best at: fitness, speed, and POWER IN THE AIR!!!” The cartoonist’s use of bold type illustrated how central these tenets were to Racey’s credo; Gusztav Sebes our hero was not. England still won 5-1, though, and English football stumbled into the 1980s, a jurassic arena in which Harfords and Fashanus roamed the earth freely, creating wanton havoc.
Brendan Rodgers has a new theory. He explains why Liverpool are struggling this season. You can look to Mario Balotelli and Raheem Sterling:
“We have lost goals. We scored 101 last year but take away nearly 80 per cent of that [Suarez and Sturridge] and it can become difficult, alongside the introduction of lots of new players. It is not rocket science.”
80%? Suarez and Sturridge scored 52 goals between them in last season’s Premier League. Last season, Liverpool had scored 17 goals after 10 matches. This season they’ve scored 13 after 10. So. They’ve not lost 80% of their strike force. They just lost Luis Suarez, who was their best player by a country mile.
