Well, so says the Metro newpaper:

They are? Back in November 2014 the Metro said Arsenal were tying up a deal for Lars Bender:
And before that the Mirror tols its readers that Lars Bender was Arsenal’s number 1 transfer target:
He never did arraive. Arsenal spent their cash elsewhere.
