Transfer balls: Arsenals fans learn that Manchester City will sign Jack Wilshere for £30m
Transfer Balls catches sight of the Daily Star’s lead sports story that Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere is off to Manchester City for £30m.
This story is billed as an “EXCLUSIVE”.
Paul Hetheington has the exclusive facts:
England ace Wilshere, 23, is one of the potential targets mentioned by Etihad Stadium bosses.
So. No £30m bid for Wilshere, then. In fact, no mention of how that £30m was arrived at. Instead Hetherington says that Manchester City need to to sign English players. And, you know, Wilshere is English. But he’s not the only one:
City are also considering a move for another midfielder, Everton’s England playmaker Ross Barkley, 21… But they also see West Ham’s Aaron Cresswell, 25, as an alternative English target.
The intriguing name on the hit-list, though, is Wilshere – and City have a history of signing Arsenal players.
What list? And why does the list not also include Arsenal’s Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Spurs’ Harry Kane, QPR’s Charlie Austin, Liverpoool’s Raheem Sterling and so on and on? Is it because Hetherington needs some more to pad out his fact-free story? As he continues:
In recent years they have snapped up Gael Clichy, Bacary Sagna, Samir Nasri and Emmanuel Adebayor from the Gunners. And Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira is City’s Elite Development coach.
You could also add Brian Marwood, Manchester City’s academy director, and David Platt, who until 2013 was assistant Manager at Manchester City. You could also add what Wilshere said about Arsenal selling players to rival clubs:
We read that in the Daily Express, sister organ to the, er, Daily Star…
