Transfer Balls: Spurs find £20m for PSG’s Adrien Rabiot, who already signed for Roma and Arsenal
Transfer Balls: Are Tottenham readying a bid for PSG’s Adrien Rabiot? The Times says they are:
Tottenham Hotspur have expressed further interest in signing Adrien Rabiot, who has played in midfield for France at all youth levels but has asked to leave Paris Saint-Germain.
Rabiot is represented by his mother, Veronique Rabiot, who says her lad fancies a return to the Premier League (he was on Manchester City’s book for a short time):
“Adrien loves PSG and would love to make a career for himself there, but it’s not possible. He needs 35 games per season to continue his progression, and this won’t happen at PSG next season. I’ve asked for a transfer and it is better that he leaves. Adrien is happy when he wears the colours of PSG. If he cannot play for PSG, then his choice is the Premier League.”
Can Spurs find the £20m fee mooted in the Times? And can Spurs fans believe this news from Mrs Rabiot? It sounds a lot like an agent talking up their client. After all, it was back in September 2014 when the Sunday People said Rabiot was refusing to sign a new contract at PSG and had no interest in the Premier League:
Paris Saint-Germain’s highly-rated midfielder Adrien Rabiot is set to disappoint a clutch of English admirers – and move to Serie A, writes Neil Moxley in the Sunday People.
The French star has been on the radar of the Premier League’s top clubs, with Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal, champions Manchester City and current league leaders Chelsea all linked with a big-money bid for the 19-year-old… it is understood that the teenager has shunned advances from the Premier League’s finest and has already agreed a pre-contract deal with Roma.
The Roma deal was confirmed in the Express:
There was no deal with Roma – just as there was no deal with Spurs, even though the trusty Daily Star said Rabiot had joined the Lilywhites in January 2015:
And then there was Eurosport which declared that Rabiot had joined Arsenal for £12m:
The Express agreed that Rabiot to Arsenal was a done deal.
In October 2014, Rabiot signed a new deal with PSG. Kerching! He said:
“I am very happy to remain a player of Paris Saint-Germain, the club that made me the player I am today. I would like to thank the president who kept discussions open in recent months and the sporting management for his support. It was here at Paris Saint Germain that I grew up and enjoyed my first experiences as a player. The club’s project is ambitious and I’m very proud to be a part of it for the coming years. Now I want to concentrate on my football, on my game and give my best for Paris Saint-Germain on the pitch and for the supporters.”
But now he dreams of a big money – big wages! – move to the Premier League. Well, so his agent says…
