Was this Uniqlo sex tape a naked marketing ploy?
Was it all a stupid stunt, the sex video filmed inside a changing room at an outlet of the Japanese clothes chain Uniqlo? Can naked people sell clothing? Of course they can. Sex can sell anything.
And this video is a hit. The Chinese regime says the sex tape breaks “socialist core values”. How’s that for a tagline?
It might even launch the career of its female star, a young woman we will call ‘Kim’.
She and the man have been questioned by police. The perfume and reality TV show will have to wait.
Four others have been arrested on suspicion of spreading obscene content, a crime that carries the threat of two years prison. For anyone “found guilty of making obscene” products for profit, the sentence is life imprisonment.
And now police believe it was all part of a marketing ploy by Uniqlo. The Japanese says that’s rubbish. Uniqlo has posted a statement on their website asking visitors to “abide by social moral standards, maintain social justice, and use the fitting rooms properly”.
Meanwhile, the pile of shop-soiled goods grows.
