Manchester City: Pep Guardiola’s words are twisted into a noose
Is Pep Guardiola making ready for a move to Manchester City? The Sun says he is. Maybe. After all, the German Press says Pep is off to coach Qatar. But says the Sun:
GUARDIOLA gave a huge hint that he could be heading to Manchester City next season as he admitted he could be ready to leave Bayern Munich.
Hint. Could. Could. Any facts?
And while Guardiola denied claims he has already agreed to leave Munich for Manchester, he fuelled the belief that it is only a matter of time before he pitches up as Manuel Pellegrini’s replacement.
He did? What did the Spanish manager say?
“I have not made a decision yet as to what is best for this club. One year is a long time. I am not convinced whether it is right for the club if I were to extend my contract. I’ll never be a problem for Bayern.
“When I reach a decision, I will talk to [Bayern bosses] Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Uli Hoeness and Matthias Sammer.
“A year is a long time, three years is a lifetime at a big club.”
Mentions of Manchester City: zero.
“This is the first and last time I’ll talk about this. I have not had any offers from other clubs. I have received no offers. I have read a lot in recent months, but I want to do the best for this club.”
But in the mad world of tabloid reporting, the Sun hears those words and concludes:
Guardiola’s comments effectively leave Pellegrini as a dead man walking with the Chilean entering the final year of his City contract.
Or as Guardiola says:
“I am Bayern Munich coach and I am happy to be here.”
The Sun might be twisting words to fit an agenda, but we remain in awe of the Daily Express, which just presents utter balls as if it were fact:
No. he hasn’t.
