Hayley Adamson Killed By Police Swift Response
A SPEEDING police car has killed 16-year-old Hayley Adamson as she crossed the road, on which the speed limit is 30mph.
A Chris Broatch tells the Mirror: “I estimate they were both doing 100mph. I don’t know why they were going so fast. They were going too fast to see her.”
A crowd gathered at the crash scene in Newcastle. Police were pelted with stones. Officers subdued Hayley’s boyfriend, one George Oliver, with a Taser stun gun and arrested him.
Says Chief Superintendent Paul Weir, of Northumbria Police: “There were a number of incidents following the collision and understandably emotions were running high. However, we cannot tolerate that emotion spilling over into violence and disorder.”
Police say the cars were not responding to a 999 call. They say the crash officer’s Number Plate Recognition System had identified a suspicious car.
It’s all tragic, of course. A girl is dead.
But the debate will not be about her. It will be about the police and if silent running is an accident waiting to happen.
But if they don’t race to the scene with stealth won’t the public complain that the police don’t get to crime scenes quickly enough?…
