New Free Mobile London Newspaper Takes On Evening Standard
WITH the death of the London Evening Standard as a paid-for newspaper – it’s going free – comes the end of the Evening Standard street vendors.
The self-employed street vendors earn 12.5p for each 50p copy sold. They will be replaced with salaried staff working for a contractor, paid by the hour.
One day the streets of London will be chock-a-block with magazine and news sellers, shouting the news to one another as locals with their ears plugged into breaking 24-hour news and eyes locked upon instant messaging services walk on.
The papers will then be deemed too unwieldy and a barrier to effective movement of news personnel and be replaced by devices to attract attention, such a brighter uniforms, novelty hats and huge brass bells.
The “Oyez-Oyez” will be a free paper and give Londoner what they want – local news delivered by local man in a regional accent…
