Islam4UK Renamed Gary Glitter Appreciation Society
ANJEM Choudary’s Islam4UK will be banned under counter-terrorism laws, says Home Secretary Alan Johnson. Islam4UK is also known as al-Muhajiroun, al-Ghurabaa and The Saved Sect.
Says Mr Johnson:
“I have today laid an order which will proscribe al-Muhajiroun, Islam4UK, and a number of the other names the organisation goes by.”
Already the group is believed to be re-naming itself to stay a step ahead of the rules Names under consideration are – some names are of old clubs no longer in existence:
Real Islam 4UK
The Gymnastic Society
The SDP
The Surrey Football Club
Dial Square
Gary Glitter Appreciation Society
Spurs
Bourne and Hollingsworth
Says Alan Johnson of New Labour, formerly Old Labour:
“We are clear that an organisation should not be able to circumvent proscription by simply changing its name.”
Speaking from Lebanon, Omar Bakri Muhammad, founder of al-Muhajiroun, told the BBC the decision to ban the group would “increase the popularity of al-Muhajiroun” and “force them underground“.
