Is The Alleged Plot To Kill The Pope An MI5 PR Ploy?
SIX people have been arrested in London in an alleged plot to kill the Pope. On the same day on Johnathan Evans, Director General of the British Security Service, says the UK is under threat and it’s only a matter of time until Islamists strike, six men are arrested.
The six men are aged 26, 27, 29, 36, 40 and 50. They’ve been arrested under the Terrorism Act 2000, on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.
The Mirror says they were going to blow up the Pope.
The Mail tells us:
Armed officers detained the men, all believed to be Muslims of North African origin, as they prepared to go on shift at a cleaning depot in Central London.
The Guardian adds:
Searches by officers at up to 10 addresses were continuing tonight, but no equipment linked to bomb-making or anything that could obviously be used to stage a terrorist attack was recovered.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman tells us:
“Initial searches have not uncovered any hazardous items. Today’s arrests were made after police received information. Following initial inquiries by detectives, a decision was made to arrest the five men.
“Following today’s arrests the policing arrangements for the Papal visit were reviewed and we are satisfied that our current policing plan remains appropriate.
“The itinerary has not changed. There is no change to the UK threat level.”
And with that the threat of terrorism is back on the news cycle…
