944 criminals working as police: thousands of goods missing from stations

by | 3rd, January 2012

DID you know that 944 serving police officers and community support officers in England and Wales have a criminal record? Not all were gained for research purposes. Offences included: burglary, causing death by careless driving, robbery, supplying drugs, domestic violence, forgery and perverting the course of justice. Among the bad apples are a chief inspector working for the Metropolitan Police. Freedom of Information requests also tell us that lots of stuff goes miusisng form police stations. Things like:

£10,000 patrol car and £30,000 private vehicle (Manchester police)

Fridge (Dunstable)

CCTV footage and a TV (West Oxfordshire)

Crumpets (Priory Road police station in Hull)

A fern and plastic plant pot (Lancashire Police)

Mannequin (Essex Police)

20-pack of toilet rolls (West Mercia)

As the Scotsman says:

Three police cars stolen from under Strathclyde officers’ noses
