Benedict Cumberbatch to play Khan in Star Trek 2
SHERLOCK is what Benedict Cumberbatch is best known for, but soon, he’ll be tackling the legacy of the mighty Ricardo Montalban (mighty mainly because of his funny name and the fact he wore a false chest in The Wrath Of Khan and starred in Crossroads) as he plays Khan in the new Star Trek movie.
Yessum, Cumberbatch has been cast in J.J. Abrams’ sequel to his 2009 “Star Trek” rehash.
And while nothing has been confirmed of Benedict’s role, it looks incredibly likely that he’ll play the villain in the film. Producer Bryan Burk, however, said last month that the film’s villain would be “original and unique.”
Cumberbatch is in demand at the moment, thanks to his star turn in the BBC’s Sherlock. He’s also done a turn as a British cavalry officer in Spielberg’s “War Horse” and recently starred in “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”.
In addition to that, he’ll be joining his Sherlock co-star Martin Freeman in “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” voicing the dragon Smaug.
In the new 3-D Star Trek film (‘Star Trek 2: Yes We Khan’ or something) Benedict will join Chris Pine (Captain Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock), Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Karl Urban (Dr. McCoy), John Cho (Sulu) and Simon Pegg (Scotty) in the film due out 2013.
