TWO huge earthquakes off the coast of Indonesia tested the area’s tsunami warnings. The most powerful quake was centered 20 miles under seabed around 30o miles from Aceh on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. In 2004, 170,000 people died in that province. The Indian Ocean threatened to rise and move inland. But there were no signs of deadly waves. There was to be no repeat of the 2004 Asian tsunami. Technology gave warning and would have saved lives…
