Israel sends 20,000 Harry Potter commandos to Cyprus

THERE are 19,500 personnel in the Israeli Navy. Of that number, only a relative few get to be commandos. Odd, then, that Turkey’s Anatolia news agency should report that Israel is to deploy 20,000 commando to Cyprus to protect work on natural gas exploration and extraction.

That’s a lot of commandos, isn’t it? The piece ends:

‘Anatolia’s source in Greek Cyprus reportedly said, “The Israelis were coming here to settle for good.”‘

Not everyone in Turkey is buying the rhetoric. Having spotted those Israeli spy beesBurak Bekdil writes in Hurriyet:

“I feel obliged to correct: In fact, the IDF plans to deploy 200,000, not 20,000, commandos on Cyprus, although it has only a few tens of thousands of commandos in Israel. This new special operation unit will mostly consist of vultures, bee-eaters and poison-resistant rats.”

And watch out for Harry Potter
