Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini says he won’t get sacked… which can only mean one thing
BEING a football manager is a lousy job. Perform slightly badly and everyone wants your head on a pole and the media dissects your every thought to see if you’re going mad or deciding you’re thoroughly incompetent.
And so, to Roberto Mancini, stood their with a bemused look of incredulity on his face and his little Man City scarf.
Mancini thinks that anyone who reckons he’ll be getting sacked for being 12 points behind Man United in the title race, doesn’t understand football. Many have stated that defeat to Leeds in the FA Cup fifth round on Sunday will see him handed his P45.
The Italian hit back:
“We started our project three years ago. In three years we are always on the top. We fight for the title. We have won three trophies. We have the chance to win more this year. All the people who talk about this don’t understand football. If Manchester City should sack me, the other 20 teams in the Premier League should be without a manager.”
Manchester City have a history of sacking managers without mercy. Remember Peter Reid getting the chop after City had finished in the top 5 of the league two seasons on the bounce? Remember Sven getting unceremoniously dumped after 30 seconds in the seat? And Mark Hughes didn’t exactly get comfortable at his desk at Eastlands did he?
Of course, Mancini shouldn’t get axed, but tempting fate in football isn’t wise, especially when you’ve got super-rich owners and Jose Mourinho batting his eyelids at the Premier League.
