Carly Rae Jepsen gives the finger to the boy scouts of America
WHILE Justin Bieber goes into brattish meltdown mode, saying to everyone that it isn’t fair that people are nasty to him (despite the fact that, while trying to take the moral highground after nearly punching a photographer AND slagging Lindsay Lohan off in an Instagram post), his pop pal Carly Rae Jepsen is faring much better.
After hitting the airwaves with the insanely great ‘Call Me Maybe’, she went on tour with Bieber and became a fully fledged popstar.
The offers rolled in and Jepsen found herself being asked to play at this summer’s National Scout Jamboree. And she told them to stick it.
Why? Well, she wants to protest against the nine-day event after the Boy Scouts of America decided to roll out a national ban on gay Scouts and Scout leaders.
And good for her.
She said:
“I mean, it was sort of one of those things that I kind of have my opinions about, and everyone’s entitled to their own, but it wasn’t necessarily something that I felt comfortable backing once I learned more about it.”
“That being said, here’s hoping they make the right decision and I’m praying that moves like this will help.”
In her official statement, she wrote:
“As an artist who believes in equality for all people, I will not be participating in the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree this summer. I always have and will continue to support the LGBT community on a global level and stay informed on the ever-changing landscape in the ongoing battle for gay rights in this country and across the globe.”
A Boy Scouts spokesperson addressed the cancellation by saying:
“We appreciate everyone’s right to express an opinion and remain focused on delivering a great Jamboree program for our Scouts.”
A stark contrast to Bieber who told Rolling Stone magazine that, regarding women who had been raped, “everything happens for a reason.”
